During our brief stint at the Buda Castle, Tyler and I experienced some wine tasting at the Royal wine cellar and museum. After a brief tour of the museum, we were treated to a total of 8 different wines. Two unique highlights:
1) The famous Hungarian "bull's blood" aka Egri Bikaver - this rich, complex red gets it's name from a legend that an invading nation was initially scared off from attacking Hungary after observing their warriors drink a dark red liquid believed to be bull's blood. This full bodied red is a must for any visitor to Hungary or it's neighboring nations.
Tokaj - From the Tokaj region in Hungary, this sweet white has a very distinct aroma and taste, unlike anything I've experienced before. Unlike Pinot Grigio or other sweet whites I've had previously, the initial sweet, fruity flavors evolve into much more sophisticated finish that was truly excellent.
As a whole, I highly recommend this wine tasting experience, and for anyone planning to visit the region, feel free to email their director:
